自細漢著立志,講欲寫歌唱歌趁錢;
(mmmmmm…sounds good) ……….[no bad]
You know my friend Jimmy, he's really something:
Since he was little, he wanted to write songs to make a living.
He's frenzy 'bout movies, and crazes for foreign LP's,
Dreaming one day he'll be one among Paul Anka, Paul Simon, or Paul McCartney.
(hmmm... sounds good...) (not bad!)
Years ago he was so moved by Lîm Kiông's "Ordinary People,"
That he touted it around asking friends to buy the CD.
And once upon hearing Tân Bêng-chiong's "Une pièce de l'après midi,"
He liked it so much and hummed it till late night-y.
(Hey dude! Singing at this hour of the day? Piss off!)
And when Wubai became en vogue, he hacked thru his lyrics,
"Wanderer's Love Song" became "Wanderer Loves None";
"Crush in You" became "Losers Two" .
Even Wubai loved it so much:
So long as it's not for sale,
What's so awful about doing something fun and cool?
Songwriters are never that stingy,
The problem is... the record company.
(Who said that?) (Don't be hypocrite!)
When he's with his guitarra singing, he's insouciant about nothing.
Sometimes he gigs at the teahouse of Pak-tâu,
Sometimes he riffs by the River Tām-chúi ,
Itzy-bitzy winnie-minnie woosh-hoosh woozy-funky,
When he's with his guitarra singing, he's happy with everything.
Pen a few bars of melody,
And have two mouthfuls of sushi.
Even if sometimes he's got an empty bowl,
Who said he ever cares about the dough?
(You sure he can feed himself?) (No kidding... which great artist hasn't been thru that?)
Other people write to make a killing,
He writes thru his difficulty.
Others gig to be a star,
He gigs and gigs for his own part.
But still he smiles and sings his own lyrics his own melody.
So if one day you come to see him,
Please give him a big high-five and standing ovation.
(Vote President for Mr. Bean!)
And he'll be rapping:
Sing the melody and feel free,
An acknowledging credit and I'd be so happy.
Sing the melody and feel free,
If you gig'ed it and made money, grant me a due share of it.
Sing the melody and feel free,
If you don't gig for the money, you just sing and feel free.
Brothers, what's the worry about the word proprietary?
Sisters, the more open you be, the more you feel rich.
The more you sing the melody, the more you'll be rich
The more you sing the melody, the better it's got to be!
So sing the melody and feel free (sing the melody)
So sing the melody and feel free (feel free)
So sing the melody and feel free (sing the melody)
Et voilà on y va...
"Hiòng chiân kiâⁿ"
"Sim-muh lóng m-kiaⁿ !"
